What is a recovery phrase?
In Keet, the recovery phrase is a human-readable backup made of 24 random words that lets you restore your identity and access your encrypted data if you lose your device or reinstall the app.
Your seed phrase provides full access to your account. Make sure to access it and store it somewhere safe. It should not be shared with anyone.
We store your recovery phrase for you in Keet on your original device only when you choose the Quick setup option while creating your account. If you lose access to that device without backing up your seed phrase first the account can no longer be recovered.
We strongly recommend to securely backup or write down your recovery phrase and store it in a safe place as soon as possible after account setup. 🔑
Once lost, it is permanently unrecoverable, and access to your identity and data will be lost.
Do not share your recovery phrase with anyone as it provides full access to your account 💎
How to view your recovery phrase on your device
Accessing the seed phrase is similar on both desktop and mobile devices. If you choose the Quick setup option while creating your account follow these steps to find the seed phrase on your original device.
Open Keet. Go to Profile / Settings / Privacy and Security / Recovery phrase.
Make sure to read the security information and check the box to confirm it. After that, click 'View phrase'.
Write down or copy directly from the app and store it in a safe place.
After viewing and copying the seed phrase click 'Done'.
What happens if I lose my device? Can I regain access to my account?
If you lose your device, you can use other linked devices or your seed phrase to regain access to your account.
Linked Devices
If you have other devices linked with the same Keet account, you can set up a new device by following the linking the device guide.
If no other devices are linked, you can use recovery phrase.
Recovery with seed phrase
Install Keet on a New Device.
Import Recovery Phrase:
Use your backup recovery phrase to recover your account. This 24-word recovery phrase is crucial for account recovery.
Go to Profile > Recover My Account, enter your recovery phrase, and click Continue.
Can I have multiple recovery phrases for my account?
No, each account is associated with a unique recovery phrase. You cannot have multiple recovery phrases for one account.
Is it possible to change my seed phrase or get a new one?
No, you cannot change the recovery phrase for your account. Each account is associated with a unique seed phrase, you cannot generate a new 24 words for the same Keet account.
Can I generate a recovery phrase offline?
Yes, you can generate the recovery phrase and set up your account offline.
