What is and how to view a recovery phrase?
In Keet, the recovery phrase is a human-readable backup made of 24 random words that lets you restore your identity and access your encrypted data if you lose your device or reinstall the app.
Your recovery phrase provides full access to your account. That’s why please make sure to access it and store it somewhere safe. It should not be shared with anyone.
View your recovery phrase on desktop
Open Keet. Go to Profile and Settings > Settings > Privacy and Security > Recovery phrase.
Make sure to read the security information and check the box to confirm it. After that, click “View phrase”.
You can write it down or copy it directly from the app and store it somewhere safe.
After that, click “Done”.

Your recovery phrase is stored only in Keet on your original device. If you lose access to that device, your recovery phrase cannot be recovered.
We strongly recommend that you export or write down your recovery phrase and store it in a safe place as soon as possible.
Once lost, it is permanently unrecoverable, and access to your identity and data will be lost.
What happens if I lose my device? Can I regain access to my account?
If you lose your device, you can use linked devices or your identity to open your account on a new device.
Linked Devices:
If you have other devices linked with the same Keet identity, you can set up a new device by following the setting up Keet on multiple devices guide.
If no other devices are linked, you can use your identity to recover the account.
Identity Setup:
If you didn't set up an identity on the lost device, the account cannot be recovered.
If an identity was set up, follow these recovery steps:
Reinstall Keet on a New Device.
Import Recovery Phrase:
Use your backup recovery phrase to recover your account. This 24-word recovery phrase is crucial for account recovery.
Go to Profile > Recover My Account, enter your recovery phrase, and click Continue.
Note: After recovery, you’ll be able to rejoin the existing rooms once someone in the room comes online to let you in.
Can I have multiple recovery phrases for my account on Keet?
No, each account is associated with a unique recovery phrase. You cannot have multiple recovery phrases for one account.

Is it possible to change my recovery phrase or get a new recovery phrase in Keet?
No, you cannot change the recovery phrase for your account. Each account is associated with a unique recovery phrase, you cannot generate a new recovery phrase for the same Keet account.

Yes, you can generate the recovery phrase and set up your account offline.
